Father's Day Painting!
"Father's Love"
12"x16" pastel on Canson paper. 6/18/17
Days like these can be celebrated, or dreaded. Some of us have had good fathers, and others...have not.
When I spoke at the prison on Mother's day recently, the Lord had me talk to the prisoners about their Fathers. I am thinking of what He told me to say to them, and feeling led to share some of it with all of you.
God wants you to know,
He wants to be your Father.
He wanted it so badly, He paid the ultimate price, came to earth and died a horrible death on a cross, to reconcile you to Him, just because He wanted you. So, don't ever think no one wants you, or you don't matter to anyone, because you were bought with an unfathomable price.
You may have had a father, who failed in many ways. He may have abused you, abandoned you, neglected you, and some of you may not have ever even known him. Sometimes, we project our beliefs about or our experiences with, our natural Fathers, onto God. Jesus lived a perfect life, because He loved you. He knew we could not be perfect, so he was perfect for you. God wants you to know, His love for you is like the life Jesus lived, it is perfect. It isn't based on how good you are, it is based on His perfection, in Love.
One time, someone called me saying, God had told him to come to me for a word from God. As we began to speak, he said he had a gift of prophesy, but was having a hard time connecting to God. So I asked him about his father, I had a feeling the two were connected. Sure enough, his father had abused him, and because of this, he was afraid to draw close to men.
As we prayed, and he forgave his father, God whispered to me, "tell him, I am also a Lion." When I did, the little boy inside of him was overjoyed, and was finally able to run and bury his face into the Lion's mane!!!
Today, I want to encourage you. Take a look at your relationship with your natural father, and see if you are assuming lies about your Heavenly Father. Ask him to help you be healed from any past wounds. Imagine yourself at whatever age you were when you were hurt by your natural father, and see yourself crawling up into your Heavenly Father's lap to receive healing from Him.
Please pray...
I forgive my father, for the ways he failed me. For neglecting me, criticizing me, provoking me to anger, abusing me, abandoning me, hurting me...etc. What he did was wrong, but I ask you to forgive me Lord, for anyway I have judged him. I release him to you, choose to show him mercy, and pray my judgement would not bear any fruit, in my life, or his life.
For those who have children, please pray, Lord forgive me for the ways, I have not been a good father to my children, and help me become a father who loves his children like You do.
Lord, please show me the ways I may be assuming lies about you, because of dysfunction with my natural father, and lead me to the Truth that will set me free.
I ask you God, to be my Father. I accept the perfect sacrifice Jesus paid to reconcile me to you, and I receive you today as my TRUE FATHER!
Amen
