“Costly Worship”
8”x16” pastel on paper
She was a known sinner, yet she walked boldly into the room filled with religious hypocrites, into of an atmosphere of judgment and haughty sneers.
She did not let it stop her, she let her hair down, broke the alabaster jar…and her expensive precious perfume was poured out.
She caressed His feet with her hair and kissed them with her lips. The ointment glistened on His feet, mixing with dirt from the streets of Jerusalem....and her tears.
Oh how she loved these beautiful feet. Soon they would be nailed to a cross…after walking that long road to Calvary...to save her from her sins, and not just her, but everyone, even those who hated Him.
Who was this woman? Was she a temple prostitute with a true gift to see? How did she know to do this? She must've seen it...she had to have known He was the long awaited Messiah!
Maybe God blessed her with a vision or a word much like Paul had on the road to Damascus. I am certain she was anointing Him by the unction of the Holy Spirit. Maybe it was just gratitude, but then again, maybe it was something more? Maybe it was God. So bold and incredibly intense, she had to have been compelled by love.
Mary of Bethany, also poured out perfume, kissed Jesus's feet and wiped them with her hair. Jesus said she had done a "beautiful thing" as he defended her, to Judas, the treasurer, who would later sell him for 30 pieces of silver. Jesus said, she had saved the perfume for this day, to prepare His body for the grave.
Mary was one of the best listeners Jesus ever had; she would sit at his feet for hours. She probably heard Jesus speak about his death and understood why it had to happen. She believed Jesus was The King of kings and understood better than some of His disciples exactly Who He was.
She wanted to give Jesus a gift that would cost her something. He had brought her own brother back from the grave, she wanted to give Him everything. Her extravagant gift showed how much she loved him. Judas’ betrayal revealed how he loved money more.
The fragrance from her gift, filled the room and it must have lingered on Jesus the whole time He was tortured.
How many people smelled the perfume? Did the man that beat them with the whip, could he smell it? Could those that spit on Him and cursed Him, could they? As he walked by carrying the cross, did those standing there notice? What about the person that drove the spike into His feet, could he smell it?
I believe Jesus could smell it…
and it comforted Him.

Pour My Love On You
Phillips, Craig & Dean
I don't know how to say exactly how I feel
And I can't begin to tell You what your love has meant
I'm lost for words
Is there a way to show the passion in my heart
Can I express how truly great I think You are
My dearest friend
Lord, this is my desire
To pour my love on You
Like oil upon Your feet
Like wine for You to drink
Like water from my heart
I'll pour my love on You
If praise is like perfume
I'll lavish mine on You
'Til every drop is gone
I'll pour my love on You
Is there a way to show the passion in my heart
Can I express how truly great I think You are
My dearest friend
Lord, this is my desire
To pour my love on You
